Leaders and members of LGBTQ affirming congregations throughout eastern Iowa are encouraged to attend this workshop on providing "safe and inclusive sacred spaces." "Join us for a time of learning, sharing and discussing practical steps for welcoming all people as beloved children of God," write event organizers. Co-sponsored by the Presbytery of East Iowa and the Presbytery of Great Rivers. Registration is $20, or $15 for attendees from churches registering three or more people. Enjoy a sneak peek at a new documentary about the untold history of the Quad Cities' LGBTQ community, plus a showing of the impactful 2012 AIDS/HIV documentary, "How to Survive a Plague." The evening begins with a cocktail hour at 6 p.m.; the sneak peek happens at 7 p.m. "Our Story: Pride in Memory" is a production of Tammy and Kelly Rundle of Fourth Wall Films, and QC Pride in Memory. "Swan Song" is a 2021 film about a hairdresser who sneaks out of his nursing home to help style the hair of a dead woman, and rediscovers himself along the way. Presented by the Southern Illinois University LGBTQ Resource Center; free and open to all students, staff, faculty, alumni, friends, family and community members.
