ROCK ISLAND — Offering “a way to end the summer” in a fun way before schools resume, Clock Inc. is holding a Queer Field Day Aug. 19 featuring three fun activities that may or may not be competitive, says executive director Chase Norris.

Cornhole, speed-walking and kickball are the three games to be featured at this first-ever event for the Quad Cities area. Full teams can register, or individual players in need of a team can sign up.

“Our goal is just to get as many teams as we can for each of the different categories,” says Norris..

Kickball is the only one of Queer Field Day’s activities that involve “any level of athletic skill,” says Norris. 

“Anybody can throw a beanbag,” Norris says, “and anybody can speed-walk.” The overall goal is not competition, but “inclusion.”

Queer Field Day will take place at Hodges Park, 4303 24th St. in Rock Island. Proceeds from the event will help fund Clock Inc.’s operations year-round, and individual players looking for teams can also register. Here are the rates:

  • $80 for kickball teams (eight members each)
  • $60 for speed-walking teams (six members each)
  • $20 for cornhole teams (two members each)
  • $10 for individual kickballers or speed-walkers in need of a team

Clock Inc. will also award prizes to kickball teams for “Best Uniforms” and “Most Team Spirit.”
